SPENCER – Tiffany Meinders struck out eight and did not walk a batter to earn the win as the Spencer softball team defeated Colby 6-2 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Friday at Spencer High School.
Spencer improves to 10-2 overall and 9-1 in the Cloverbelt East, maintaining its lead in the conference standings.
Sadie Mericer and Danika Griepentrog each had two hits and an RBI, and Chloe Drews and Paige Bauer also drove in runs for Spencer.
“It was a solid team effort tonight, our defense has really stepped up,” Spencer coach Laschel Canfield said. “The thing I love most about these girls is that it is a different girl every day digging in and getting things done offensively. Like Danika, she got us started later in the game and had a great day at the plate.”
Spencer will compete at the Gilman/Thorp Tournament on Saturday and will play a conference game at Colby on Tuesday.
