ESCANABA, Mich. – The Marshfield softball headed north for its annual trip to the Escanaba (Mich.) Tournament and finished 2-1 in the two-day event Friday and Saturday.
The Tigers were shutout in the opener Friday by host Escanaba 10-0, before rallying to whip Gladstone 12-1 and Marquette 15-3 in a pair of games on Saturday.
Marshfield (17-4) was held to just three hits in the opening game as Escanaba scored in five of the seven innings to pull away.
The Tigers’ bats weren’t silent for long as they crushed a combined 35 hits, including 11 doubles and two home runs, in the Saturday sweep.
Jenna Jakobi had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs against Gladstone. Rhiannon Corozolla and Kate Konrardy both had a pair of doubles, and Morgan Nordbeck had two hits and three RBIs for Marshfield.
Megan Donahue had four of the Tigers’ 20 hits against Marquette. She had two doubles, smacked two homers, and drove in five runs in the victory. Jenna Jakobi also hit a homer and Corozolla had two doubles again with two RBIs. Brianna Jakobi chipped in a pair of RBIs as well.
Marshfield hosts Wausau East for a Wisconsin Valley Conference doubleheader at the Marshfield Fairgrounds on Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m.
