MARATHON – Marathon dealt the Stratford softball team a major blow toward its hopes of a Marawood Conference South Division title with a 5-2 victory Monday.

With the victory, Marathon improves to 5-1 in the Marawood South and into second place behind 7-1 Wisconsin Rapids Assumption. Stratford is now 6-2 in conference play at 10-7 overall.

Stratford wraps up its regular season schedule with two games against Assumption – Tuesday at home and Thursday at Assumption, but will need help in order to vault into first place. Marathon plays a doubleheader at Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday and another twinbill at home against Edgar on Thursday.

The Tigers had five errors in the loss as Marathon scored single runs in the first three innings and added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.

Mariah Zawisland had three hits, and Courtney Kaiser added two hits and a pair of RBIs to provide the majority of the Tigers’ offense.
