Spencer softball shuts out Columbus Catholic, clinches Cloverbelt East title

SPENCER – Tiffany Meinders tossed a one-hit shutout as the Spencer softball team clinched its fourth-straight Cloverbelt Conference East Division title with a 9-0 win over Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Thursday at Spencer High School.

Meinders struck out 12 and walked just one, allowing just one hit in seven innings of work.

“I am very impressed with Tiffany’s performance on the mound tonight,” Spencer coach Laschel Canfield said. “She has been such a steady hand on the mound for us, it’s so fun to watch.”

Spencer scored seven runs in the first two innings to take control early.

Sadie Mercier went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored, Aryiah Schuh had three RBIs, and Lexi Baehr had a double and an RBI for Spencer.

The Rockets improve to 12-4 overall and 11-1 in the Cloverbelt East. Spencer wraps up its regular-season schedule Friday at home against Gilman.

Addison Baierl took the loss the Dons (3-11, 2-10 Cloverbelt East).

Spencer will host Bangor in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
