WAUSAU – Mason Coffren struck out four in a solid starting pitching effort as the Marshfield baseball team defeated Wausau East 4-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Thursday at East High School.

Coffren allowed one run and six hits in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win for the Tigers, who are now 4-12 overall and 3-7 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Riley Boushack got the final two outs to earn the save for Marshfield.

The Tigers scored all four of their runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run double by Isaiah Baierl and a two-RBI single by Antonio Anaya.

“Great pitching by Mason and Riley,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said. “Our defense was solid. We did a great job with our plate discipline. We took advantage of a few things in that first inning. Isaiah and Antonio had key hits to score runs and we held on the rest of the way.”

Marshfield plays a nonconference game at Menomonie on Monday.
