WAUSAU – Marshfield finished its regular season on a strong note, taking third place at the seventh and final leg of the 2018 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Friday at Greenwood Hills Country Club. Wausau East was the host school.
Marshfield had a score of 361, one shot behind second-place D.C. Everest, to take third for the second time in the seven-meet tournament.
Wausau West rolled to the team victory with a 323 and with it dethrones seven-time defending conference champion Stevens Point to win the overall WVC title. Marshfield ended up in fourth place overall.
Merrill sophomore Russell Dettmering won medalist honors with a 74 and won his second-straight individual WVC championship.
Marshfield’s Ben Baur finished in a four-way tie for third after firing an 82, and ended up tying for fifth in the overall standings to earn first-team all-WVC honors.
Nate Boson finished 17th with a 93 for the Tigers and finished in 13th in the overall standings to grab honorable mention all-conference.
Jaxon Bulgrin tied for 13th with a 92, Josh Gruen had a 94, and Cole Hanson shot a 96 as well on Friday for Marshfield.
Marshfield will compete in the WIAA Division 1 regional on Tuesday at Merrill Golf Course. The top four teams and top four individuals not on those qualify teams will move on to a Division 1 sectional at Stevens Point Country Club on May 29. The top two teams and top three individuals not on those teams qualify for the 2018 WIAA State Boys Golf Tournament at University Ridge in Madison on June 4-5.
