WAUSAU – Wausau West piled up nine runs during the final two innings to go on to defeat Marshfield 11-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball game Tuesday at West High School.
West led 2-1 after four innings before putting up four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to end the game via the 10-run rule.
West pitcher Grant Hill limited Marshfield (4-14, 3-8 WVC) to just three hits and one run, that coming on an RBI single by Riley Boushack in the fourth innings.
Hunter Landrath hit a pair of home runs and drove in four for the Warriors (11-4, 8-2 WVC).
“We stuck with them through the first four,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said. “Hopefully we can take advantage of a few more things offensively the next time. Will started off well, but tired a little in the fifth and we just couldn’t slow their bats down after that.”
The two teams will meet again Thursday at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield to end the WVC season.
