MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls soccer team tied Wausau East 2-2 in its home finale on Tuesday at Griese Park.

Kate Schilling scored a pair of unassisted goals, the final one coming with 7:26 remaining in the game, to provide the scoring for Marshfield (3-7-4, 0-3-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

Mikayla Brueggen had eight saves in goal for the Tigers.

“I loved the fact we battled back from being down a goal twice on a warm day,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “It was outstanding to see the effort the team made to tie things up after getting behind. They showed some great character out there. Makenna Hart and Nina Hashimoto were outstanding in the game and showed a lot of heart and desire.

“It was a tough game but one that each team could have won. East had a breakaway late that hit the top cross bar and Marshfield had a penalty kick that the goalie made a nice save on to preserve the tie.”

Marshfield will finish its regular-season schedule Thursday at Wausau West.
