Meinders tosses one-hit shutout as Spencer softball beats Bangor in WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal

SPENCER – Spencer scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and it proved to be more than enough as the Rockets downed Bangor 3-0 in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal Wednesday at Spencer High School.

Tiffany Meinders struck out 15 and tossed a one-hit shutout to lead Spencer to the win.

The Rockets (14-5) will play at No. 1 seed Cochrane-Fountain City (14-1) at 5 p.m. Thursday in a regional final.

“Tiffany really had a great day on the mound, with 15 strikeouts, you can’t ask for more than that our of anyone,” Spencer coach Lashcel Canfield said. “Lexi (Baehr) also had a great day at the plate. She was strong and steady at the plate and her team followed suit, and her spectacular catching getting us out of a bind in the sixth inning.”

Baehr had two of Spencer’s five hits, including an RBI and a run scored in the first inning.
