WAUSAU – Emily Names scored with 2½ minutes left in the first half and that proved to be enough as Wausau West shutout Marshfield 1-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference and regular-season finale on Thursday.

Mikayla Brueggen had 10 saves in goal for the Tigers, who wrap up the regular season at 3-8-4 overall and finish 0-4-2 in the WVC.

“The entire team played well in a physical game,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “The nice thing was on such a hot evening we used the entire team and they all responded well. We all have areas we are good at and if we use these strengths in the upcoming playoffs I like our chances.”

Marshfield will host Merrill in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal on Tuesday. The Tigers went 1-0-1 against Merrill during the regular season.
