STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield boys golf team was eliminated from postseason play after finishing seventh at the WIAA Division 1 boys golf sectional Tuesday at Stevens Point Country Club.
Nate Boson tied for 17th with an 82 and Ben Baur tied for 23rd with an 84 to lead Marshfield, which finished seventh with a team score of 348.
The top two teams, Eau Claire Memorial (296) and River Falls (315), qualify for the 2018 WIAA State Boys Golf Tournament at University Ridge Golf Club in Madison on June 4-5.
The top three individuals not on the two qualifying teams, also advance to the state meet. Evan Thomas of Stevens Point was meet medalist with a 70 to earn one of the individual spots. Ben Peloquin of D.C. Everest and Russell Dettmering of Merrill each shot 75 to tie for fifth and earn the other two state berths.
Cole Hanson shot an 89, Jeffery Berres had a 93, and Josh Gruen had a 94 for Marshfield.
