LA CROSSE – Spencer sophomore Hannah Zastrow, and Auburndale’s Kali Karl, Isabelle Hilber and Paityn Hamus will compete in three events at the upcoming 2018 WIAA State Track & Field Championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Events begin at 9:30 a.m. both days.
Hannah Zastrow, who qualified in four events last year, will take part in three this year at state. She will compete in the Division 3 girls high jump, along with teammate Sabrina Vircks, on Friday afternoon. Later, Zastrow will run in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries. On Saturday morning, Zastrow will compete in the D-3 pole vault.
Karl is part of two Auburndale girls relay teams that will compete, including the defending Division 3 state champion 1,600-meter team. Karl, Hilber and Isabella Jewell return to the team, and are joined by Hamus.
Karl, Macie Schmeiser, Erricka Zenner, and Taylor Stanton will compete in the 3,200 relay finals Friday, and the squad of Hamus, Hilber, Maddie Krings, and Kaitlyn Trowbridge will compete in both the 400 and 800 relays for Auburndale.
Karl will also compete in the girls 800 meters on Saturday, Juilanna Kollross joins Zastrow in the D-3 girls pole vault field, and Jewell will take part in the girls 400 meters as well for the Apaches.
Spencer’s Logan Zschernitz returns in both the Division 3 boys shot put and discus after competing in both a year ago. Teammate Nate Karau will also compete in the discus.
Spencer’s Collin Nieman will compete in the D-3 boys 800 finals, and teammate Aaron Pankratz will run in the 200 and 400 preliminaries on Friday.
Columbus Catholic’s Noah Eckelberg will compete in the wheelchair shot put finals on Friday morning and the 100, 400 and 800 meters on Saturday.
Jessica Jakopin of Columbus Catholic will take part in the D-3 girls shot put for the second year in a row on Friday afternoon.
Stratford’s lone state performer will be Parker Hoffman, who will compete in the Division 2 boys triple jump on Friday afternoon.
In Division 1, Marshfield is sending five athletes in six events.
Senior Adam Elhendy-Gunnarsson will compete in the boys long jump on Friday morning and run in the 200-meter preliminaries later. Teammates Adam Maki, in the pole vault, and Joey Goettl, in the triple jump, will compete on Saturday.
Nadia Ougayour will compete in the D-1 girls discus on Friday morning, and teammate Meg Bryan will compete in the long jump on Saturday.
