ASHWAUBENON – The Marshfield girls soccer team scored twice in the first eight minutes and held on from there, defeating Ashwaubenon 5-2 in a WIAA Division 2 regional championship game on Saturday at Ashwaubenon High School.
The Tigers (5-8-4) move on to a D-2 sectional semifinal Thursday at Pulaski (10-6-1) at 5 p.m. The regional title is Marshfield’s first since 2014.
Nina Hashimoto scored four of Marshfield’s five goals, two coming in the first eight minutes after Ashwaubenon jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal in the second minute of play.
Hashimoto scored at the 5:50 mark on an assist from Kate Schilling and added another two minutes later on a corner kick assist from Courtney Meyer to put Marshfield up for good.
The lead held until 21 minutes into the second half when Nicole Simon scored.
Hashimoto added another goal at 67:00 and finished off the scoring with her four with 1:40 remaining in the game.
“The entire team passed very well and moved to space,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “The pace seems to have increased to a level that the girls are impressive to watch. We played our hearts out and every play is to be commended again.
“We hope to carry this forward to the game with Pulaski on Thursday. We know we will have to have added improvement Thursday, but we’ll enjoy this for a day and get to work Monday.”
