STEVENS POINT – Marshfield busted open a close game with eight runs over the final two innings to best Stevens Point 12-6 in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League baseball game Wednesday at Bukolt Park.
The game was tied 4-4 after Point put up two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Marshfield Post 54 responded with five runs in the sixth and added three more in the seventh to pull away for its first victory of the season.
Marshfield is now 1-4 overall and 1-2 in league play. Point drops to 0-2.
Devin Toburen went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, Ryan Krueger had a single, a triple, and scored three times, and Logan Matson and Jake Brueggen each added a pair of hits for the Blue Devils.
Brueggen and Eli Drexler both had two RBIs in the victory.
Marshfield plays at Wausau on Thursday at 7 p.m. and a doubleheader at Adams-Friendship on Sunday starting at noon. The Blue Devils finally open their home schedule Monday against Merrill at 7:30 p.m.
