WAUSAU – The Marshfield Post 54 American Legion Senior baseball team used a seven-run sixth inning to blow past Wausau 10-4 in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League game on Thursday at Athletic Park.
The game was tied 3-3 after five innings before the Blue Devils (2-4, 2-2 WVLL) busted the game open with the big inning.
Jake Brueggen had a two-run single, Connor Jasurda scored on a passed ball, Ryan Krueger had a three-run double, and Krueger scored on a pair of Wausau errors to provide Marshfield with the seven-run inning.
Brueggen picked up the win, allowing four runs in six innings. Jasurda pitched a scoreless seventh inning to finish off the victory.
Eli Drexler and Ben Gust eachhad two hits, and Jaeger Johnson and Matt Handrick both scored twice for Marshfield. Drexler added a pair of RBIs.
Marshfield plays a non-league doubleheader at Adams-Friendship starting at noon on Sunday before finally opening its home schedule Monday against Merrill.
