MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Senior Legion baseball team put up three runs in both the bottom of the first and second innings, then held off a late rally to beat Wisconsin Rapids 7-4 in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League game Monday night at Jack Hackman Field.
The Blue Devils (13-6, 8-2 WVLL) rushed out to the quick 6-0 lead, and led 7-2 heading into the seventh when Rapids scored twice before Logan Matson got out of the jam by recording the final out.
Jake Brueggen earned the win for Marshfield, scattering 13 hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Ben Gust had three RBIs and Devin Toburen went 3-for-4 and scored twice for the Blue Devils. Matson added two hits and three runs scored.
Marshfield hosts Eau Claire for a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday starting at 5:30 p.m.
