Thorp baseball player Reece Drost has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com June High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Drost picked up nearly 40 percent of the 1,500 votes cast.
Other nominees for the June award were: Columbus Catholic track athlete Noah Eckelburg, Edgar track athlete Marissa Ellenbecker, Marshfield girls soccer player Nina Hashimoto, Athens baseball player Marshall Westfall, and Spencer track athlete Logan Zschernitz.
Drost played a key role in pushing the Cardinals to the Division 4 championship game at the 2018 WIAA State Spring Baseball Tournament in Appleton. Drost earned the win with three innings of one-hit relief, and also had a hit and three runs scored in a 6-5 semifinal win over Johnson Creek on June 13. He had a hit and scored a run in the championship game, a 13-10 loss to Athens, on June 14.
The winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced Monday, July 10.

Drost joins Columbus Catholic boys soccer player Nadim Torbey (September), Marshfield cross country runner Joseph McKee (October), Marshfield boys basketball player Seth Anderson (November), Auburndale boys basketball player Cale Jacoby (December), Marshfield boys hockey player Ryan Krueger (January), Owen-Withee girls basketball player Jennifer Wendler, Marathon boys basketball player Nathan Stoffel (March), Marshfield softball player Megan Donahue (April), and Marshfield track athlete Meg Bryan (May) as winners of the award during the 2017-18 school year.
