EAU CLAIRE – The Marshfield Post 54 Senior American Legion baseball team wrapped up play at the Eau Claire Tournament with a victory over Altoona on Sunday to finish 3-1 at the three-day event.
Marshfield beat Winona LeJetz (Minn.) 4-2 and lost to host Eau Claire 4-1 on Saturday, then rebounded with an 8-3 win against Altoona on Sunday to move to 17-8 this season.
Matt Handrick had a double and two RBIs, and Devin Toburen had two hits and scored twice in the win over Altoona.
Dakota Landphier earned the victory for Marshfield, striking out four in four innings of work.
Against Winona on Saturday, Marshfield scored all four of its runs in the fifth inning as it rode the arm of Preston Wagner. Wagner pitched 6 2/3 innings, striking out eight and allowing four hits. Logan Matson got the final out to earn a save.
Both Matson and Ryan Krueger drove in a pair of runs for the Blue Devils.
Marshfield was held to just four hits as Tanner Halverson struck out eight in six innings and Levi Schaller struck out the side in the seventh to finish off the victory for Eau Claire.
Marshfield hosts Wausau at 7 p.m. Monday at Jack Hackman Field.
