WAUSAU – The Marshfield Post 54 Junior Legion baseball team opened play at the 17-U regional by going 1-1 in games Friday and Saturday at Athletic Park.
Marshfield lost to Plover 2-1 in its opener on Friday before coming back to beat Clintonville 7-1 on Saturday in the double elimination tournament. Play continues Sunday.
Against Plover, Marshfield tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI by Nick Urban in the top of the seventh inning to score Ty Pankratz, but the Black Sox scored the winning run in the bottom of the inning to earn the victory.
Logan Schreiner struck out four and scattered six hits in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win against Clintonville.
Pankratz had three hits, two RBIs and scored twice, and Devyn Palmer also drove in a pair of runs for the Blue Devils (18-14).
The winner of the regional qualifies for the 17-U Wisconsin State Tournament in Plover next week.
