Marshfield Junior Legion wins twice, stays alive in 17-U regional

WAUSAU – The Marshfield Junior American Legion baseball team won a pair of games on Sunday to stay alive in the 17-U Legion regional.

Marshfield beat Wausau 7-5 and Stevens Point 3-2 to move into the championship game Monday night. Stevens Point and Plover will play at 5 p.m. with the winner taking on Marshfield (20-14) at 7:30 p.m. The winner qualifies for the 17-U Wisconsin American Legion State Tournament in Plover, which begins on Friday.

Marshfield trailed 5-2 against Wausau before rallying with a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Blue Devils took advantage of five Wausau errors and eight walks to pull out the win. Ty Pankratz went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Marshfield.

Alejandro Anaya earned the win, throwing three perfect innings of relief.

Anaya earned the win against Stevens Point as well, allowing one run in three innings of relief. Nick Urban picked up the save with a pair of scoreless innings.

Urban also had one of the Blue Devils’ two hits and drove in a run in the victory.
