Plover edges Marshfield Senior Legion baseball in regular-season finale

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Post 54 Senior American Legion baseball team finished its regular-season schedule with a 9-7 loss to Plover in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League contest at Jack Hackman Field.

The Blue Devils finish the regular season with a 20-13 record and a 9-5 mark in the WVLL.

Marshfield led 4-3 before Plover plated five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead for good.

The Blue Devils scored three in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t get any closer as Dylan Davis slammed the door and saved the victory for Brett Ehr.

Riley Boushack went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, and Jake Brueggen had a pair of triples and scored twice for Marshfield. Devin Toburen added a pair of hits and Mason Coffren drove in two runs as well for the Blue Devils.

Marshfield will play Wausau in the first round of the Class AAA regional at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids on Friday at 4 p.m. The double-elimination tournament will continue through Monday, July 23, with a berth in the state tournament at Marinette on the line.
