Marshfield Tennis Association crowns four champions at annual doubles tournament

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tennis Association held its annual MTA Doubles Tournament on Aug. 3-5 at Boson Courts.

A total of 21 teams and 34 players overall competed in the tournament.

The Men’s A Division was won by Sean Soupiset and Alex Christianson of Stevens Point, which won all of three their matches in round-robin competition. Soupiset and Christianson beat Tom Duncan and Garry Koehler of Marshfield, 6-1, 6-3; Chris Gritzmacher of Wausau and Sam Gritzmacher of Minneapolis, 7-6, 6-0; and Todd Schultz and Jacob Twardowski of Marshfield, 6-2, 6-1.

Brett Haakenson and Duane Haakenson of Antigo won the Men’s B and Women’s A combined division, topping Renee Wesolowski of Marshfield and Holly Reckner of Stratford, 6-4, 6-1.

In Mixed Doubles, Reckner and Schultz won the title, beating Jill Joyce and Brett Haakenson, 7-6, 6-0.

Scott and Dillon Scheuer went undefeated in the Juniors Division, beating Len and Audrey Luedtke of Marshfield, Ajiht and Aleena Varghese, and Emma Tucker and Loyrn Jacobi.

Bill Eggebrecht and Ken Swenson of Marshfield defeated Joyce and Betsy Wolf of Marshfield, 6-4, 7-6, to win the Men’s B and Women’s A Division consolation bracket.

In the Mixed Doubles consolation bracket, Duncan and Tonya Barth defeated Renee and Pat Wesolowski, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.
