APPLETON – The Marshfield football team improved to 2-0 this season with a dominating 35-6 win over Appleton West in a Valley Football Association crossover game Friday night at West High School.
Braden Bohman scored three times for the Tigers – on a 75-yard punt return and a 2-yard run in the second quarter, and a 4-yard run in the third quarter – to lead the way.
Marshfield led 8-0 after the first quarter after scoring on its first drive. A 37-yard run by Caden Pearce led to a 6-yard scoring pass from Ryan Krueger to Pearce. Krueger added a two-point conversion pass to Preston Wagner.
The Tigers opened up their lead with a big second quarter. Bohman’s punt return came with 6:25 to go before halftime and after a three-and-out, Bohman’s 2-yard TD run capped a 62-yard scoring drive to make it 22-0.
Marshfield was able to put pressure on West’s quarterback Carson Hacker all game long and the pass rush caused a big turnover on the final play of the first half.
A tipped pass turned into a 25-yard interception return by Justin Stanek as the clock hit zeroes and the Tigers led 29-0 at the break.
The Tigers put the game into a running-clock situation late in the third quarter when Bohman scored to finish off a nine-play, 67-yard drive with 4:23 to go, pushing their lead to 35-0.
West managed its only score of the game with just more than 2 minutes remaining.
Marshfield will host Hortonville in another VFA crossover game next Friday, Aug. 31. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
