SUN PRAIRIE – The Marshfield volleyball team had a tough first day at the Sun Prairie Invitational, dropping all five of its matches.

Marshfield lost to Madison Edgewood 25-18, 25-15; Watertown 25-10, 25-12; Manitowoc 25-15, 19-25, 16-14; De Pere 23-25, 25-15, 25-12; and Waupun 19-25, 25-19, 15-12.

Marshfield, which will continue play at the tournament on Saturday, drops to 0-8 this season, but coach Dawn Sadowska was pleased with the team’s improved play.

“Despite our record, we are excited the progress we made today as a team,” Sadowska said. “Statistically, we did better today than our opener, and the teams we saw today were better all around. We need to be patient in our youth and inexperience and focus on where we want to be at the end of the season.”

Karly Nikolai had 27 kills and 10 blocks, Lindsey Steffen had 21 kills and 12 service aces, and Brooklyn Boushack added 17 kills and 17 blocks for the Tigers.

Taylor Barwick had 73 assists, Kaydee Johnson had 46 digs, and Kati Sadowska had 35 digs for Marshfield.
