MANAWA – Manawa’s offense proved unstoppable in the second half as the Wolves erased a small halftime deficit to down Auburndale 34-22 in a nonconference football game Friday night at Manawa High School.
The Apaches led 8-3 at halftime in the strength of a safety from Travis Gotz and a 5-yard touchdown run by quarterback Caleb Weinfurter.
Manawa quarterback Mason Wiesner proved to be the difference after intermission, scoring on touchdown runs of 84 and 21 yards to help push the Wolves to the win.
After Auburndale took a 16-13 lead on a 2-yard touchdown run by Dylan Paun and a two-point conversion, Manawa regained the lead for good on a 10-yard run by Dan Beyer.
Seth Forbes added a 32-yard touchdown run and Wiesner capped the scoring with a 21-yard TD run with 5:50 to go for the Wolves.
Wiesner finished with 197 yards rushing on 17 carries and added 67 yards passing for Manawa (2-0).
Trayton Weister rushed for 157 yards and had a touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Apaches, who are now 0-2 to start the 2018 season. The rest of the team combined for just 61 yards.
Auburndale will play its home and Marawood Conference opener next Friday, Aug. 31, against Rib Lake/Prentice starting at 7 p.m.
