STRATFORD – The Stratford football team earned its first win of the season, ripping Antigo 28-8 in a nonconference game Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
The game was delayed in the first half due to lightning, but the Tigers were not to be denied, pulling away for the win.
Stratford is now 1-1 and will open its Marawood Conference schedule next Friday, Aug. 31, at Chequamegon. Antigo drops to 0-2.
Stratford led 14-8 at halftime on the strength of a 2-yard touchdown run by Kade Ehrike and a 73-yard TD pass from Max Schwabe to Okley Wrensch.
The Tigers’ defense turned it up in the second half, holding Antigo scorelss, the offense put some distance between them in their opponent.
Ehrike had a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and Wrensch caught a 19-yard scoring pass from Schwabe in the fourth to finish off the scoring.
Ehrike finished with 113 yards rushing and Schwabe had 124 yards through the air, 106 to Wrensch.
Stratford’s defense held Antigo to 31 rushing yards and 81 yards total.
