Columbus Catholic soccer surges past Northland Lutheran

MARSHFIELD – Dylan Porter scored twice in the second half to push the Columbus Catholic soccer team to a 3-1 win over Northland Lutheran in the Central Wisconsin Conference opener for both teams on Monday at Griese Park.

Evan Dieringer scored on a penalty kick 5:51 into the game for the Dons and their lead held until halftime.

Northland Lutheran tied the game on a goal by Devin Pahl 5:41 into the second half, but Porter and the Dons quickly responded.

Porter scored off an assist from Dieringer less than 3 minutes later, and he scored again with just under 10 minutes left to finish the scoring. Tom Nystrom assisted on the final goal.

Kellen Heinzen saved 13 shots in goal for the Dons (3-1).

Columbus plays at Gresham/Bowler on Thursday.
