GRESHAM – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team blew open a tight game with three unanswered goals in an 18-minute stretch of the second half to down Gresham/Bowler 7-3 in a Central Wisconsin Conference game Thursday.
Nadim Torbey scored three times for the Dons, who improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the CWC. The game was the season-opener for Gresham/Bowler.
Torbey had a pair of goals and Dylan Porter added another to push Columbus to a 3-1 lead.
After G/B scored, Zach Olson put the Dons up 4-2 with a goal 45 seconds before halftime.
Gresham/Bowler again cut Columbus’ lead to one before the Dons finished off the win with three goals between the 65th and 83rd minutes by Tom Nystrom, Olson and Torbey.
Kellen Heinzen had five saves in goal for the Dons.
Columbus Catholic hosts Wisconsin Valley Lutheran on Tuesday and Stevens Point Pacelli next Thursday in a pair of CWC games. Both contests start at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
