Stratford wins title at Auburndale Volleyball Invitational

AUBURNDALE – Stratford went a perfect 6-0 to take the team title at the Auburndale Volleyball Invitational on Saturday.

Stratford defeated Mosinee 25-16, 22-25, 15-5, and swept matches against Prentice 25-12, 25-14; Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 25-16, 25-9; Iola-Scandinavia 25-13, 25-7; Stevens Point Pacelli 25-12, 25-15; and Marshfield Columbus Catholic 25-21, 25-16.

Mazie Nagel had 54 kills and Jadyn Dahlke had 72 assists for the Tigers.

Columbus Catholic went 4-2 to finish in second place, defeating Auburndale 25-7, 25-23; Spencer 25-10, 25-12; Iola-Scandinavia 25-15, 25-11; and Pacelli 25-20, 25-13. The Dons lost to Mosinee 25-23, 25-18, and Stratford.

Brooke Neider had 111 assists and 26 digs, Annie Baierl had a team-high 51 digs, and Kate Turchi had 30 kills and 27 digs to lead the Dons. Kenzie Hansen added 27 kills, Maren Seefluth had 17 kills and 40 digs, and Jess Jakopin had 17 kills and 10 blocks as well for Columbus.

Auburndale finished 3-3, defeating Spencer, Pacelli and Assumption, and losing to Columbus Catholic and Mosinee twice.

Georgi Schmutzer had 29 kills, 31 digs, 55 assists and eight service aces to lead Auburndale. Mackenzie Raab added 28 kills, 25 digs and 58 assists, and Teryn Lau had 20 kills and 37 digs for the Apaches.

Spencer was 0-6, losing a pair of three-set matches to Assumption 23-25, 25-15, 15-13, and Iola-Scandinavia 23-25, 27-25, 15-11. The Rockets were swept by Prentice 25-17, 25-12; Columbus Catholic; Auburndale 25-11, 25-10; and Prentice again 25-16, 25-12.

Heavyn Kind had 18 kills, Elexa Post had 17 kills and 17 digs, Chloe Drews had 16 kills, and Zalexis Mannigel had 45 assists for Spencer. Carsee Neitzel led the Rockets’ defense with 90 digs.

Auburndale plays at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption and Stratford plays at Edgar on Tuesday in a Marawood Conference South Division matches Stratford also has a nonconference match at Colby on Monday.

Spencer is at Stanley-Boyd in a nonconference match on Tuesday and hosts Gilman in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division match Thursday. Columbus Cahtolic is off until Thursday when it travels to Owen-Withee for a Cloverbelt East matchup.
