WESTON – The Marshfield boys soccer team had several scoring opportunities but were unable to push one in the goal and dropped a 1-0 decision to D.C. Everest in a Wisconsin Valley Conference match Tuesday night at D.C. Everest Middle School.

Marshfield outshot Everest 22-8, including 9-4 on goal, but couldn’t get one past Evergreens’ goalkeeper Ty Tretter, who had nine saves.

Kole Brecke scored the game’s only goal late in the first half for Everest (3-2-1, 3-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

“Soccer is a cruel game – blew so many chances to put ball in net,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. ‘Some point-blank opportunities missed and a few great saves by D.C. Everest keeper. I thought our defense defended well, we were creative in our attack but just couldn’t get the final ball in the back of the net. We are getting better overall every game, so I am pleased by that.”

Marshfield falls to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the WVC. The Tigers host Wausau East at 5 p.m. Thursday at Griese Park.
