Marshfield soccer routed in Fond du Lac tournament opener

FOND DU LAC – One night after a grueling loss to D.C. Everest, the Marshfield boys soccer team traveled to Fond du Lac on Friday for the first game a two-day tournament, losing 6-0 to Kenosha Tremper.

The Tigers blew a 1-0 lead late in the second half, dropping a Wisconsin Valley Conference game to D.C. Everest at home on Thursday, then less than 24 hours later, had to travel two hours to Fond du Lac for the two-day tournament.

David Caban scored the first three goals of the game for the Trojans (7-1), who are ranked No. 6 in the state by the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association.

Tremper led 4-0 by halftime and scored two more times in the second half to send Marshfield to 3-3-2 on the season. The Trojans outshot Marshfield 17-8. Marshfield goalkeeper Erik Holm had six saves.

“We played a very good team and we had our moments where we did amount attacks on them,” Marshfield coach Ron Todryk said. “When you get eight shots against a team of that caliber, there were definitely some bright spots

“We are maturing and we are showing progress. We did play very well at times,” Todryk added. “We didn’t have the letdowns that occurred on Thursday night. We had several opportunities. It looked very promising for our team.”

Marshfield wraps up play at the Fond du Lac Tournament on Saturday.
