MARSHFIELD – First-place Stevens Point was just too much for the Marshfield volleyball team to handle on Thursday night as the Panthers won 3-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference match at Marshfield High School.

Stevens Point won 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15, to improve to 6-0 in WVC play. Marshfield is now 1-5.

Kaydee Johnson had 23 digs, Taylor Barwick had 27 assists, and Karly Nikolai had 11 kills to lead the Tigers in each category. Brooklyn Boushack had four block kills and Lindsey Steffen added eight kills for Marshfield.

“Despite this being a loss, I really felt we saw some glimpses of what this team could be,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “Our defense was phenomenal and our blocking improved. We are heading into the gym tomorrow feeling much better about ourselves.”

Marshfield plays a nonconference match at Chippewa Falls on Tuesday.
