WAUSAU – Marshfield had two top-three finishes and ended up fourth at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Tennis Tournament on Friday at Wausau East and West high schools.
The Tigers finished with 15 points at the tournament to end up in fourth, but remained in fifth in the overall final standings, which includes dual meet results from throughout the season.
Stevens Point won six of the seven flights, and finished second in the other, to rack up 40 points and win the WVC Tournament. The Panthers also were the overall champions after finishing 5-1 in dual meets. The title is Stevens Point’s fifth in the last six years. Wausau East won the 2017 title, stopping Point’s streak of four straight.
Marshfield’s top finish came from the No. 2 doubles team of Emily Weis and Lauren Weigel, who finished second after losing the championship match to Taylor Konczal and Lillie James of Stevens Point, 6-1, 6-0.
Ana Paape finished third at No. 4 singles for Marshfield, beating Rachel Bredl of Wisconsin Rapids in the third-place match, 6-4, 6-3.
Jebina Devadas was fourth at No. 2 singles for the Tigers after dropping the third-place match to Lea Ratanawong of Wausau East, 6-0, 6-1.
Marshfield No. 3 doubles team of Krupa Patel and Caitlyn Christiensen also finished fourth, losing the third-place match to Hannah Harosch and Ally Abbott of Wisconsin Rapids, 7-5, 6-2.
Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 subsectionals on Tuesday at Rhinelander.
