Auburndale volleyball finishes second, Columbus third at Edgar Invitational

EDGAR – The Auburndale volleyball team finished 3-1 to finish second at the Edgar Invitational on Saturday.

Auburndale defeated Rib Lake, Gillett and Marshfield Columbus Catholic, before falling to Abbotsford in the championship match.

Maggie Willfahrt had 43 digs and eight service aces to log team-highs in both categories for the Apaches.

Alexis Soppe had 17 kills and seven aces, Mackenzie Raab added 15 kills, 44 assists, and 26 digs, and Georgi Schmutzer had 11 kills, 32 assists, and 16 digs for Auburndale.

Columbus Catholic finished third, winning its other three matches. The Dons beat Gillett 2-0 (25-12, 25-3) and Rib Lake 2-0 (25-13, 25-6) before the loss to Auburndale. In the third-place match, Columbus slipped past Colby 2-1 (25-13, 21-25, 15-13).

Kenzie Hansen had 23 kills and Dorci Walker added 17 kills for the Dons.

Setter Brooke Neider had 79 assists, 18 digs, and six service aces; Maren Seefluth added 16 kills and 43 digs; Katie Turchi had 19 kills, 17 digs, nine aces and three blocks; Katie Hall had 12 aces and 27 digs; and Annie Baierl had a team-high 63 digs and six aces for Columbus Catholic.

Auburndale will finish its regular-season schedule Tuesday at the second Marawood Conference crossover meet at Marathon, while Columbus Catholic is off until Thursday when it plays Altoona in the Cloverbelt Conference crossover first-place match at home beginning at 7 p.m.
