Spencer/Columbus Catholic football player Jarred Mandel has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com September High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Mandel picked up 45 percent of the 2,006 votes cast.
Other nominees for the September award were: Edgar cross country runner Marissa Ellenbecker, Marshfield boys soccer player Kade McManus, Stratford volleyball player Mazie Nagel, and Abbotsford football player Joe Aguilera.
Mandel, the Rockets’ senior quarterback, threw for 12 touchdowns in four games in September as S/C ran its record to a perfect 7-0 (now 7-1). He had 173 yards passing, three passing TDs and a rushing touchdown against Cadott on Sept. 29, completing 9 of 11 passes. He had 211 yards passing and four TDs, and kicked five extra points in a win at Colby on Sept. 21, threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns against Neillsville/Granton on Sept. 14 with another rushing touchdown, and had 106 yards passing and two TDs against Stanley-Boyd on Sept. 7.
The winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced Monday, July 10.
