AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale volleyball team will live to see another day.
The Apaches won the first two sets before Colby tied it up. However, Auburndale was able to regroup and win the fifth and deciding set to take a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal 3-2 on Thursday night at Auburndale High School.
Auburndale won 26-24, 25-10, 18-25, 13-25, 15-12, to move on to a regional final on Saturday against Marawood Conference South Division rival Stratford. Stratford beat Augusta 3-0 on Thursday. Saturday’s match will begin at 7 p.m. at Stratford High School.
Georgi Schmutzer had 21 assists, 11 digs and seven kills, Mackenzie Raab added 19 assists, 18 digs and seven kills, and Alexis Soppe had a team-high 12 kills for Auburndale.
Maggie Willfahrt led the Apaches defensively with 26 digs, Teryn Lau added 19 digs, and Marissa Ponshock and Natalie Aue each had seven kills as well for Auburndale.
