MARSHFIELD – Despite a forceful wind coming from the north, the Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team had no trouble scoring at will when facing it in the second half.
The game was tied 1-1 at halftime before the Dons blew past Wisconsin Valley Lutheran, putting up eight goals in the second half to win the WIAA Division 4 regional final 9-1 on Saturday afternoon at Griese Park.
Nadim Torbey scored four times, and Evan Dieringer and Dylan Porter each scored twice in the second-half rout for the Dons.
Kellen Delaney scored 1:57 into the game to give the Dons an early lead before a Columbus own goal just 17 seconds later tied the match.
The score remained tied until halftime, and just 38 seconds into the second half, Dieringer scored the first of his two goals to put Columbus on top for good.
Torbey assisted on three of the four goals he didn’t score in the second half.
Columbus outshot Wisconsin Valley Lutheran an astounding 41-2 and completed a three-game season sweep of the Wolves.
