RHINELANDER – The Marshfield boys soccer team played its fifth game in the last six days and the hectic schedule may have finally caught up with the Tigers.
Rhinelander scored twice in the first 17 minutes and never looked back, beating the Tigers 5-2 in a nonconference game Tuesday.
The loss drops Marshfield’s record to 4-5-2 overall as it lost for fourth time in its last five games.
“It was a lackluster performance on our part, (with) five games in six days showing its toll,” Marshfield coach Ron Todryk said. “We didn’t have any zip out there. It was kind of an uneventful game for us.”
Ben Riesterer scored on a penalty kick to close the deficit to 2-1 for the Tigers, but Rhinelander scored right before halftime and again midway through the second half to go up by three.
Tony Oba scored for Marshfield on an assist from Alex Kelnhofer to finish the scoring for the Tigers.
Marshfield returns to Wisconsin Valley Conference action Thursday at Stevens Point. Gametime is 7 p.m.
