MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys hockey team opened its 2018-19 season with a 5-1 nonconference loss to Chippewa Falls on Tuesday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Arena.

Chippewa Falls scored three times in the first 8:12 of the game and held that lead until Marshfield finally broke through for a goal in the third period.

Freshman Sawyer Schindler scored off an assist by Ryan Krueger on a power play with 7:39 to play in the game for the Tigers’ only goal.

The Cardinals responded with two more goals to push their lead to four.

“We played a tough game tonight,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “We gave Chippewa Falls quality chances, and their players made those chances count. We gave up three goals in a five-minute span, but we are pleased with the response of our team in the second and third period. We played better than the score indicated. We like our team and look forward to a great season.”

A.J. Trierweiler had 21 saves in goal for Marshfield.

The Tigers will compete at the Tomah Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
