TOMAH – The Marshfield boys hockey won the Tomah T-Wolves Thanksgiving Tournament title with an impressive offensive performance.
Marshfield whipped Sauk Prairie 9-2 in the championship game on Saturday, one day after blanking Black River Falls 8-0 in the semifinals.
Ryan Krueger and Isaac Wellens each scored three times for the Tigers, who improve to 2-1 this season.
“We played a good game overall,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “We ran into penalty trouble during the second period, but our penalty kill was solid and we were able to turn those into momentum moving forward. It is good to see goals coming from multiple lines. We had a great tournament weekend, and hope to carry this momentum into two games next week against Lakeland and SPASH.”
Marshfield scored three times in the first period and added two more in the second to roll out to a 5-1 lead.
The Tigers put the game away with four goals in the third period.
A.J. Trierweiler had 24 saves in goal, and Sawyer Schindler had three assists for Marshfield.
On Friday, Trierweiler saved all 25 shots he faced in preserving the shutout for the Tigers.
Isaiah Baierl and Evan Weister each scored twice, and Adam Manki had three assists for Marshfield.
Marshfield hosts Lakeland in a nonconference game Tuesday at the Marshfield Youth Ice Arena.
