Columbus Catholic boys basketball outlasts University School to win Cranberry Classic championship

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team had its offense rolling at high speed on Saturday night as it outlasted University School of Milwaukee 92-85 in the championship game of the Cranberry Classic at Assumption High School.

The Dons improve to 2-0 with the victory and won the Cranberry title for the third time in the past four seasons.

University School (1-1) led 46-41 at halftime before the Dons surged ahead with a 51-point second half.

Noah Taylor had 28 points, Jarred Mandel had 27, and Bryce Fuerlinger scored 21 for Columbus Catholic. Taylor and Mandel were named to the all-tournament team.

Columbus Catholic hosts Colby on Tuesday and plays at Spencer on Friday for its first two Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchups of the 2018-19 season. Both games will be broadcast on WOSQ-FM 92.3 and online at wdlbwosq.com.
