MERRILL – Taylor Varsho ripped the nets for 28 points, including six 3-pointers, leading the Marshfield High School girls basketball team to a 65-37 demolition of Merrill in a nonconference game Monday night.
For the second time this season, Varsho, a sophomore guard, tied the school record for 3-pointers made in a game. The record was set by Liz Buttke in the 2003-04 season. Varsho also broke the Tigers all-time mark for 3-point attempts in a game, hoisting up 12 shots from long-range.
Kelsey Weigel scored 12 points on 5 of 6 shooting for the Tigers, who improve to 9-1.
Eleni Seitz scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Leah Ripp hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points for Marshfield.
The first-place Tigers (4-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference) return to action Tuesday at home against Wausau East (1-10, 0-3 WVC). Game time is 7:30 p.m.
