Huge first half lifts Columbus Catholic boys basketball past Spencer

SPENCER – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team built up a huge lead by halftime and cruised to a 71-36 victory over Spencer in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Friday night at Spencer High School.

The Dons raced out to a 48-19 lead by halftime and ended up with a 35-point win.

Ethan Meece had 14 points, Noah Taylor had 12, and Jarred Mandel scored 10 for Columbus Catholic, which is now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Cloverbelt East.

Tom Nystrom, Jadon Nienast and Bryce Fuerlinger each added nine points for the Dons in a balanced attack.

Connor Bacon had 14 points to lead Spencer (1-1 overall and Cloverbelt East).

Columbus Catholic plays at Auburndale and Spencer hosts Edgar in nonconference action on Monday.
