Marshfield wrestling wins WVC opener at Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT – Marshfield won six matches by pin and another by major decision as it dispatched of Stevens Point 52-21 in the first Wisconsin Valley Conference wrestling dual meet of the season for both teams on Thursday night at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

Gabe Pugh (126 pounds), Caden Dennee (132), Nolan Hertel (160), Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann (182), Ben Gust (195) and Sam Mitchell (220) earned pins for the Tigers.

Tanner Kanable won by forfeit at 138, Keagen Cliver (113) and Brayden Richardson (145) won by decision, and Caden Pearce had a major decision at 152 as well for Marshfield.

Marshfield will compete at the Wisconsin Dells Invitational on Saturday and will open its home schedule with a WVC dual against Wisconsin Rapids on Dec. 13.
