Marshfield boys hockey rallies, but falls short in nonconference loss at Rhinelander

RHINELANDER – Marshfield fell behind early, rallied to tie the game, but couldn’t hold off Rhinelander in the end, dropping a 6-4 nonconference boys hockey game on Friday night.

Rhinelander (3-1) scored three goals in the first seven minutes before Marshfield (5-3) surged to tie the game.

Ryan Krueger and Isaac Wellens had goals in the first period, and Sawyer Schindler scored for the Tigers just 1:40 into the second period to tie the game at 3-3.

Rhinelander pulled back ahead with two goals, including one on a power play, in the final 3:03 of the second period and held on as each team scored in the third.

Evan Weister had the Tigers’ final goal, on a power play, off assists from Wellens and Nate Boson.

A.J. Trierweiler had 28 saves in goal for Marshfield.

Marshfield has a week off before hosting Altoona on Dec. 14 and Grantsburg on Dec. 15 as part of its annual home tournament.
