Marshfield girls basketball knocks off Merrill for first WVC win

MARSHFIELD – Jenna Jakobi scored 18 points and Maddie Michaelis added 12 as the Marshfield girls basketball team beat Merrill 53-32 for its first Wisconsin Valley Conference victory of the year on Friday night at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers built a double-digit lead by halftime and held Merrill to 16 points in each half to cruise to the victory.

Marshfield is now 3-4 overall and 1-2 in Wisconsin Valley Conference play this season. Merrill, after winning its first five games of the season, lost its second straight and is now 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the Valley.

Brooklyn Boushack added 10 points in the win for the Tigers.

No Merrill player reached double figures, with Elizabeth Iribarren leading the way for the Bluejays with eight points.

Marshfield plays at D.C. Everest on Tuesday.
