MARATHON – The Auburndale boys basketball team grabbed a big early-season road win in the Marawood Conference South Division, beating Marathon 56-49 on Tuesday night at Marathon High School.
Both teams entered play unbeaten in the Marawood South and Auburndale survived to keep pace with Stratford on top of the conference standings. Auburndale is now 5-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play, while Marathon drops to 5-1 and 3-1 in the Marawood South.
Cooper Weinfurter scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Hunter Wright added 15 points for the Apaches.
Auburndale shot 45 percent from the field, making 18 of 40 shots, and made 13 of 18 free throws, which proved to be the difference. Marathon was just 2 of 5 at the line.
Carter Hanke topped the Raiders with 16 points.
Auburndale plays at home against Edgar on Thursday.
