MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys hockey team gave first-place Wausau West all it could handle early, but couldn’t hold on as dropped a 4-2 decision to the Warriors in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Thursday at the Marshfield Ice Arena.

Marshfield jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second period.

Justin Stanek scored 5:36 into the game and Adam Maki added a goal 2:51 into the second period to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage, but that would be all they would get against West goalie Nick Hahner, who made 16 saves.

West quickly responded to Marshfield’s second goal, as Cade Lemmer scored 35 seconds after Maki’s goal.

West tied the game on a power play goal by Lemmer with just 5 seconds left in the second, and pulled ahead with goals by Marc Sippel and another from Lemmer in the third.

Wausau West is now 9-2-2 overall and 4-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while Marshfield falls to 9-4 and 3-2 in the WVC. Click here to view the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey standings
