NEILLSVILLE – Neillsville’s defense overwhelmed Marshfield Columbus Catholic in the first half, holding the Dons to just three points, and the Warriors were able to cruise to a 47-19 victory in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Thursday at Neillsville High School.
Columbus Catholic made just one basket and one free throw in the first half as Neillsville rolled out to a 27-3 lead by halftime and the Dons couldn’t recover.
Hailey Roehl made a pair of 3-pointers in the second half and finished with eight points to lead the Dons. Columbus only made three other baskets in the loss, as it falls to 8-5 overall and 3-4 in the Cloverbelt East.
Jaden Barth hit three 3-pointers and Kelly Barth added a pair of shots from long range in the first half for the Warriors (10-2, 6-2 Cloverbelt East). They finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively, to lead Neillsville.
Columbus Catholic returns to action Tuesday at first-place and undefeated Colby (11-0, 8-0 Cloverbelt East). Neillsville’s next game is Tuesday at home against Owen-Withee.
