AUBURNDALE – Auburndale only shot 31 percent from the field, but did enough other things to beat Phillips 56-45 in a Marawood Conference girls basketball crossover game Friday night at Auburndale High School.
The Apaches didn’t shoot well from the free throw line either, making 16 of 39, while Phillips was just 13 of 23, as 48 fouls were called in the game.
However, Auburndale raced out to a 28-14 lead by halftime and had a whopping 49 rebounds on its way to the win.
Marissa Ponshock, Kaitlyn Kundinger and Hailey Grimm each snagged nine rebounds to help in the win.
Ponshock led the Apaches with 14 points, and Kundinger and Paityn Hamus each had 10 for Auburndale, which ended a three-game losing streak.
Auburndale plays at Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday before hosting Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Thursday.
